The museum Düppel in Berlin is the attempt to reconstruct a whole village and its environment as it existed about 800 years ago. This also includes ancient domestic animal species, plants that have been long forgotten, and old handicrafts. Results from the experimental archeological research are regularly published. The “Oldenburger Wall” - former "Starigard" - was an important settlement and a significant residence of Slavonic Counts for a couple of centuries.
Visitors to today’s “Wall Museum” and the mighty “Ringwall” walk on historical ground and on one of the most important archaeological monuments in Schleswig-Holstein. A stroll on the reconstructed ring fortress gives you an impression of its dimensions and size. The Lütjenburg motte-and-bailey castle is an authentic reconstruction of a 12th century fortification from the Wagrien region (the land between the Bay of Kiel and the Bay of Lübeck). Around the castle, a homestead with 5 buildings is presently being built in close consultation with the archeological authority of the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein.
The Lütjenburg (registered) association wants to fill the castle with life. Each year, three markets/camps are organised for this purpose, each with their own unique focus.

The Viking Museum of Haithabu is dedicated to the archeology and history of the Haithabu settlement and is located right next to the original site which used to be one of the most important settlements in Northern Europe during the Viking Age.
The museum illustrates various aspects of daily life, clothing, defence systems, religion, trade, crafts, and city development through finds, reconstructions, models, and texts.
